NSW: MP set to be expelled from parliament over rorts
A New South Wales MP accused of rorting his parliamentary entitlements is reportedlylikely to face the tabling of an expulsion motion this week.
The Sun-Herald says MALCOLM JONES, an Upper House representative of the Outdoor RecreationParty faces a vote on the expulsion motion on September 16.
But the process will begin this week when New South Wales Treasurer MICHAEL EGAN tablesa motion requiring an explanation from the otherwise obscure MP.
The paper says Mr EGAN will ask the Legislative Council on Tuesday to demand an explanationfrom the MP after the Independent Commission Against Corruption recommended in July thathe face criminal proceedings.
ICAC commissioner Irene Moss found that Mr JONES had claimed an allowance to whichhe was not entitled and had misused his parliamentary entitlements to fund non-parliamentaryactivities.
