Fed: Not too slow to change BAS, Howard

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has dismissed suggestions the federal government's changes
to the quarterly Business Activity Statement (BAS) were prompted by the conservative parties
failures in Western Australia and Queensland.

He says to be fair, they'd commenced the process of deciding on the details of the
changes before either the election in Western Australia or Queensland.

Mr HOWARD has told radio 3AW in Melbourne it may not have been announced till after
those elections but they'd made a firm decision to change.
